What happens in high wind?

Detachable gondola systems operate under a defined wind threshold, typically in the range of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour measured at the most exposed tower. Above that threshold the line is suspended and cabins are recovered to the stations.

In practice this is an infrequent event in the Atlanta climate, and comparable to weather-related service suspensions on other modes. Operators of comparable systems in North America report annual availability above 99 percent.

Nobody gets lowered out of a cabin on a rope. If the main drive stops, a backup drive brings the line into the stations, which is how these systems are designed and how it works in practice.
