Why does Atlanta need this?
Because the Beltline connects forty-five neighborhoods, and right now getting between most of them means driving.
Who supports the Overline?
Endorsements from neighborhood, business, and civic organizations along the Beltline, updated quarterly.
Is there room in the Beltline?
Towers occupy roughly sixty square feet at grade and are spaced at 200 to 300 meter intervals. No trail closure is required.
Why aerial?
Continuous circulation, no timetable, no at-grade conflicts, and a construction period measured in months rather than years.
Is this the same as the Skyride at Stone Mountain?
No. The Skyride is a reversible aerial tramway with two large cabins. The Overline is a detachable gondola operating in continuous circulation.
What will it cost to ride?
A standard fare, integrated with existing transit, with free transfers. We have been clear from the start that this is public transportation, not an attraction.
What happens in high wind?
Service is suspended above a defined threshold, typically in the range of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour. Modern systems report annual availability above 99 percent.
Will the towers be visible from my property?
In some locations, yes. One of the twelve visual simulations prepared for the 2024 open houses is published here.
Who does the Overline serve?
Anyone within a walk of the six Phase 1 stations, and anyone connecting from MARTA. Which is a smaller answer than we would like to give.
How is the Coalition funded?
Principally by a three-year program grant, 2024 through 2027, together with individual contributions. The Coalition does not accept contributions through this website.
Has the alignment changed since the 2024 open houses?
Yes. Two station locations were revised and one span was lengthened. The changes are documented in Technical Memorandum 04.
Why not rail?
The Coalition takes no position on other modes under consideration for the Beltline.
Where did the aerial alignment go?
It was under review from April to November 2025, and then it came off the agenda. We have asked three times why, and have not had an answer.
Why is this the first I am hearing of this?
Public involvement has been ongoing since 2024. Notice is distributed through participating organizations and posted here.

What is the Coalition’s relationship to the Georgia Ropeway Association?
The Coalition was constituted in 2024 as successor to the Association, which was organized in 1927 and ceased activity after 1931. It holds the Association’s surviving records.
